The Middletown Clean initiative, a new effort to keep the town clean, was approved by the Middletown Town Council Tuesday night. The initiative will focus on litter and other quality-of-life issues.

The low-cost plan aims to positively impact the community through community cleanups, education, and other means.

“Litter is one of those things that impacts everyone,” said Town Administrator Shawn Brown. “I know it’s something we already work hard on, but with Middletown Clean, we’re hoping to have even more of a positive impact across the community.”

The Middletown Clean website, https://madol.town/Clean online, will be updated with events, information, and more about how to get involved. The town also plans to offer an online portal for residents to report litter.

Keep America Beautiful, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the environment conducted a 2020 study that found about 90% of U.S. residents surveyed agreed that litter was a problem in their state. According to the study, about 50 billion pieces of litter are found on the ground and in the water across the country.

Middletown is committed to maintaining a clean, safe, and vibrant environment for residents and visitors. The Middletown Clean initiative has the potential to make a positive impact on the community and help to reduce litter.
