A suspicious vehicle incident led to a lockdown at Gaudet Middle School in Middletown on Monday, February 12, 2024, but police said there was no threat to the school or its occupants.

According to police, Middletown police and fire personnel responded to the school at about 7:50 a.m. on Monday for a report of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot. Police said a man in the vehicle died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

During the investigation, the school was placed on a brief lockdown, but police said normal school activities resumed without further interruption.

The vehicle in question was subsequently towed from the premises, and emergency services departed after clearing the scene.

Middletown Police did not identify the man.
