Governor Raimondo

Governor, Director of Health will host their daily press briefing today at 1 pm. In response to a question from What’s Up Newp earlier this week, the Governor stated that she will provided guidance today on a lot of her executive orders (restaurants take out/dine-in only, education, etc).

Updates as they happen (refresh for updates during press conference);

  • Governor: 38 new cases of COVID-19 in Rhode Island, brings total positive cases in state to 203. 28 of 203 are hospitalized, 11 of those in ICU, 7 of those intubated.

Governor: Executive Orders extended to April 13th

  • Gatherings of 10 people.
  • Anyone that can work from home is required to do so.
  • Restaurants, cafes, food establishments closed to dine-in service (allowed to continue to sell beer and wine).
  • Public entertainment, recreation, and close contact businesses (spa, nails) closed.

Governor: Executive Order extended to April 25th

  • International/domestic travel – must self quarantine for 14 days.
  • Anyone traveling to Rhode Island from New York must self quarantine for 14 days.

Governor: Executive Order extended to May 8th

  • Open Meetings Act
  • Telehealth
  • Gun Permits waiting time remains extended from 7 days to 30 days

Casinos in Rhode Island and state house closed indefiently.

Nursing homes and hospitals stay closed to visitors indefinitely.

State and services will remain online only until further notice.

Schools – Governor will make a “special announcement” on Monday on how we will deal with the rest of the K-12 school year.

New York – Today, Rhode Island State Police at highways, base of Newport Pell Bridge pulling cars over if they see your New York Plates, asking for contact info.

New York- Beginning tomorrow, Gov: National Guard will be working with police in local coastal communities to go from door to door asking people is they’ve come from NY and getting their contact information. Will be ordered to self-quarantine for 14 days.

All hotels, short-term renters, and rental companies will be notified of New York guidelines and will be asked to pass that guidance on to guests.

SNAP- About half of recipients will soon see an increase in benefits. RI will extend additional SNAP benefits to those eligible starting April 1st. Precise amounts will vary, but likely around $140. Also providing a 6-month extension on re certification.

Governor’s press conference moving forward will be at 1 pm daily.

Director Of Health: Number of people quarantined will see significant drop tomorrow due to 1,700 people connected to Cranston West coming off of quarantine .

In response to question, Governor says penalties for not following self-quarantine orders will be fined , the could face prison time for repeated violations.

In response to What’s Up Newp’s question today, “Governor – Has the Coast Guard been enlisted to help monitor those who may come into our coastal communities by boat?, the Governor said “not yet, although that’s an interesting idea and something I may look into”.
