Alchemy of all kinds weaves through the three works on the Newport String Project’s December 7th concert.
Mozart’s abundantly charming Duo in G Major, K423 will be featured in a rarely heard version for violin and cello. Contemporary composer Sally Beamish will transport the listener to 13th century Scotland for a quirky musical depiction of the unlikely experiments of eccentric alchemist, John Damian, including his unfortunate foray into the realm of early aviation. The concert concludes with Erno Dohnanyi’s joyous and atmospheric Serenade for String Trio.
Tickets are available online here.
The concert will take place from 7:30 pm to 9 pm at The Guild Hall at St. John’s Church, 61 Poplar Street in Newport.
Tickets will also be available at the door. Advance booking recommended. General Admission $20; Students/Seniors $10; Free to audience members under 16.
With the beginnings of the cold weather setting in, what could be more perfect than taking a break from the flurry of the season and gathering close for an intimate evening of chamber music that evokes bygone eras.
