Gurney’s Newport Resort & Marina, usually recognized as a summer locale, will once again transform into a winter wonderland for the holidays and beyond when the Gurney’s Skating Rink returns for its second year in a row.

This year, the property is inviting guests, visitors and locals alike to revel in the holiday spirit at the ice skating rink which opens on November 22.

Update: The opening of Gurney’s Skating Rink has been delayed a few days. “We have pushed back our opening date until Tuesday, November 26th,” Sheleen Bertrand, Marketing Manager for Gurney’s wrote to What’s Up Newp on November 21st.

Brightly lit and featuring family-appropriate music, the rink is located on the north lawn of the hotel’s property, near the Goat Island Lighthouse.

Skaters will glide across the ice while taking in unobstructed views of the famed Newport Bridge and Newport Harbor Lighthouse. For some warmth after skating, stop by The Lounge & Firepit for the ultimate Après-Skate experience. The seasonal menu will offer menu items such as classic cheese fondue, chili cornbread and World’s Best Grilled Cheese & Tomato, and cocktails like Naughty Hot Chocolate, Spiked Cider, Mexican Coffee and a Fig Cosmo.- Advertisement –

For kids, the Aprés-Skate menu includes classics like mac n’ cheese, grilled cheese and chicken tenders with fries.

Admission will cost $10, with different specials for children, seniors and military. Skate rentals will cost $7.

This year, guests and locals are encouraged to “Donate to Skate” by bringing any item of clothing in exchange for complimentary rental skates; the property is partnering with local charity, Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Rhode Island for this initiative.
