Rail Explorers, featuring pedal-powered rail bikes, will begin its Fall 2018 Rhode Island schedule with tours beginning Thursday, September 6. Rail Explorers offers scenic rides on the historic railroad along Aquidneck Island and Narragansett Bay. Rail Explorers Rhode Island Division is presented by the Newport and Narragansett Bay Railroad.
“Over 16,000 riders have enjoyed Rail Explorers Rhode Island so far in 2018 and we look forward to presenting an exciting schedule of tours through October” stated Rail Explorers CEO Mary Joy Lu in a press release today.
Rail Explorers Fall tours will take place Thursday through Sunday featuring the Northern Ramble and Southern Circuit tours. Friday Fireside tours will take place each Friday during September and October departing at 8 pm and will feature hot cider and s’mores. Sunday Brunch tours depart at 9 am each Sunday during September and October. Riders on this tour will receive complimentary muffins, fruit, juice, and coffee.
The Explorer rail bikes have 4 steel wheels, hydraulic disc brakes, pedals for each seat, and are comfortable, fun and easy to ride. Although the rail explorers require pedaling, the magic of steel wheels on steel rails makes the experience very different from riding a regular bicycle. Tandem Rail Explorer (2 riders) or Quad Rail Explorer (4 riders) are available. The tours take approximately 90 minutes.
All tours begin at 1 Alexander Road in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. Free parking is available at the Rail Explorers depot. Group, private, team building, educational and special topic tours are available. Rail Explorers private motor coach is available for round-trip group transportation.
