On Saturday, August 18th at 5 pm, Jamaica returns to Newport Polo, loaded with top Caribbean players for its annual summer campaign against the USA at the county polo grounds at Glen Farm, home of the NBC10 Newport International Polo Series 27, Presented by BMW.
The August classic, a 6-chukker exhibition polo match, will pit the USA against Jamaica, with the USA looking to defend its slight lead in the 3-decade rivalry with a home-field advantage, while Jamaica will be looking to extend its season-ending winning streak from the island. The match will conclude with a Veuve Clicquot Champagne trophy presentation, autograph signing and après polo Jerk Grill dinner celebration (sold separately).
Competing for Jamaica will be Shane Chin, Brandon Richards, Hamish Wates and Conrad Chin. “Polo is an international sport, played in over 80 countries around the globe, and we are honored to have teams traveling great distances to play in Newport,” stated Dan Keating, captain of the USA squad. The Jamaican team has developed a large following of supporters over nearly 3 decades.
Tickets to the match ($15 for General Admission and $25 for Pavilion seating) are available online at www.nptpolo.com.
The team will be highly visible on tour of the City by the Sea in their 2018 BMW X5, when they visit the Newport Mansions & Coaching Exhibitions, take in scenic Ocean Drive in scoot coups from Scooter World, sail with America’s Cup Charters, take to the skies with Newport Helicopter Tours, surf the tide with Island Surf & Sport and enjoy the world-class International Tennis Hall of Fame.
During the match, a weekly door prize drawing of a magnum of Veuve Clicquot champagne and the Stella Artois Best Tailgate will be awarded. After 6 periods, called chukkers, the match will conclude with the Veuve Clicquot Champagne Toast & Trophy Presentation, as well as an autograph signing and cocktail hour to meet the players. Specialty vendors and concessionaires will be present in the Hospitality village at the polo grounds, including the Twisted Pony Bar, Newport Polo Pro Shop, Horseshoe Wine Bar and other specialty vendors and gourmet food trucks.
