On Thursday, July 12th, The Newport Playhouse and Cabaret Restaurant will once again be transformed into a listening room for Newport to Nashville.

Newport To Nashville is a Nashville Style Listening Room, that showcases local and national songwriters performing their own original songs.

In this round, three performers will take the stage for an entertaining and intimate evening of live, acoustic, and original music.

Doors open at 6 pm and the music begins at 7 pm on Thursday, July 12th. There is no cover for this event, but there is a $10 food/drink minimum.

Meet The Musicians

BEN SHAW
Ben Shaw is a Rhode Island-based composer and multi-instrumentalist who, as a singer/songwriter, digs into the uniqueness of American music and seeks to blend all its facets together for a rich experience where the sounds of old folk ballads and raging second line rhythms can be heard alongside lush jazz harmonies and contemporary styles, all with the craft of a honed musician.

KRISTI MARTEL
When Kristi Martel was 3 she was making up harmonies; when she was 5 she was coming home from musicals to pick out their melodies on her step-mother’s piano; her father got her a piano on her 7th birthday…Today, Kristi Martel’s sweet presence, stunning vocals, intricate piano rhythms, and fearless songwriting endear audiences nationwide.

Kristi’s piano playing combines her love of blues dissonance and syncopation with her classical training. Her powerful voice is at once sweet and bitter, able to leap and soar, whisper and rattle, expressive of any emotion she chooses and fluid throughout her range. She is visionary in her lyrics and composition, writing her prayers and quirky autobiographical narratives in the same breath. Kristi has recorded and released demos for her next full-length CD, “Sacred Whore.” She is currently working on a release of the remaining four demos, on vinyl! The work is more jazz and soul, and focuses on the universal in our human experience and our need for inner and world peace.

MISSY & JEFF
Missy Ducharme and Jeff Scornavacca are singer/songwriters from the greater Providence/Boston area and perform as an acoustic duo or full band. Missy & Jeff have a full set of originals and cover the best of modern county music by artists such as Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride, Eva Cassidy, Dierks Bentley, Zac Brown, Kenney Chesney, and many more.

Missy & Jeff are involved in a number of charitable causes including Musicians On Call and Boston Children’s Hospital and have gone from hospital room to hospital room playing for hundreds of patients at Boston’s VA Hospital.
