fA man’s body was discovered off of Goat Island on Thursday, May 17th, according to officials.

At approximately 12:06 pm on Thursday, Newport Police say they were dispatched to the Goat Island Marina located on Defenders Row on Goat Island for a report of an unconscious person in the waters just off the dock area.

“Newport Fire Department arrived on scene also and the male person was subsequently pulled from the waters. He was determined to be deceased at this time,” Newport Police Department said on Thursday evening in a press release.

Police have initially determined no foul play at this time, however; this matter has been turned over to the Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s Office as is the protocol with all such reported deaths. The name of the deceased will not be released until next of kin is properly notified, according to Newport Police Department.

On May 22nd, Newport Police Department issued the following release identifying the individual;

As of today, we are releasing the identity of the deceased person found in the waters off the Goat Island Marina, Newport on May 17, 2018 at approximately 12:06 pm as one Andrew Kinzler, 76 years of age of Newport, Rhode Island . No further information is availabile at this time.
