Newport, RI – Newport Art Museum’s Art After Dark, which recently received the 2017 Editor’s Pick Award for Best Artsy Social Event by Rhode Island Monthly Magazine, is back on Thursday, December 14 from 5 – 9 pm. Each Art After Dark has unique programming for the whole family. This event joins the ranks of the many events and educational programs the Museum currently offers in its galleries at 76 Bellevue Avenue, Newport. Art After Dark this month will launch the opening of the Faculty & Student Holiday Arts & Crafts Sale featuring a wide variety of beautiful and original work by the artists and craftspeople from our own Coleman Center for Creative Studies! Join us for the best holiday shopping in the Ilgenfritz Gallery, while being serenaded by the lively Golden Bantam String Band. The sale will continue Friday and Saturday from 10 am – 4 pm, but first dibs will be on Thursday. Find the perfect handmade, special something. Maybe you need a teacher gift, stocking stuffer, stunning gift for a dear one, hostess gift or a treat for yourself. The Museum’s accomplished artist instructors and students have created just the thing for you!

Newport Photography Guild Award Winners Gallery Talk will take place at 5:30 pm in the Studio Gallery. Join us for an engaging conversation with the award winning photographers currently on view in the annual Newport Photo Guild exhibition. Patty Weiss, Jack Renner, Debbie Filkins, Jane Marie Viti, John Repoza will share their vision, choice of subject matter, and processes during an informal talk in the gallery.

Test your wits with interactive Gallery Games and Brain Teasers concocted by our 2017-2018 cohort of Museum Studies (MuSE) students! They’ll challenge your art trivia knowledge with entertaining and playfully competitive games in the galleries.

Take a breather from the hustle and bustle in our NEW Create Space, which will be stocked with materials for guests to read a poem, and leave a poem.

The Museum Shop is decked out for the holidays with ornaments, jewelry, ceramics, gifts for the wee ones, accessories for the ladies, art prints and fine art, and more! Remember: members save 10% on all items in the Shop.

Ryan Belmore is the Owner and Publisher of What'sUpNewp.

Born and raised in Rhode Island, Belmore graduated from Coventry High School and the Community College of Rhode Island. In addition to living in Newport for 10 years, he has lived in Portsmouth, Coventry, Providence, Smithfield, Burrillville, and East Greenwich.

Belmore currently serves as Vice President of the Board Of Directors for Fort Adams Trust and on the Board of Directors for Potter League For Animals. He previously served on the Board of Lucy's Hearth and the Arts & Cultural Alliance for Newport County.
