People’s Credit Union’s Children’s Halloween Dance Party & Costume Contest will be held on Saturday, October 15th at Ballard Park.

DJ Butch (well known for his BIG BIG BIG Halloween party) will spin spooky tunes children can dance to from 1 to 3 pm.  At 2 pm, children will be invited to line up for a costume parade and contest.  Celebrity judges including Senate President Teresa Paiva Weed, Newport Mayor Jeanne Marie Napolitano, Kiki Finn and People’s Credit Union Newport branch manager, Lori Marshall, will judge costumes in three categories – cutest, scariest and most original.  Two prizes in each category will be awarded.  Prizes will be provided by The Newport Sweet Shoppe.  After the costume contest, there will be a “Monster Mash Dance Off”.

People’s Credit Union’s Halloween Dance Party & Costume Contest is a free event.  Representatives from People’s Credit Union will be on hand with giveaways for children.  Newport Community Police Officer Joshua Wildes will bring his police cruiser for children to see.  The event is sponsored by Bartlett Tree Experts, The Newport Sweet Shoppe and Teresa Paiva Weed for Senate.  Co-sponsors include IHOP of Middletown, Kate Leonard, Harry Winthrop for Newport, Newport 1080 and McGrath Clambakes, Inc.

Ballard Park is located at the corners of Hazard and Wickham roads in Newport. The event will be held in the quarry meadow which is best accessed by using the Hazard Road entrance.  Those interested in attending should wear sturdy shoes as there is rugged terrain. Parking is available along Hazard Road.

Friends of Ballard Park is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting, maintaining and promoting Newport’s Only Nature Preserve. Cultural events and educational programming help to advance stewardship of the park and decrease negative park activities.
