On SaturdaySept. 16th at 4pm the NBC10 Newport International Polo Series, Presented by BMW, will feature USA vs. Dominican Republic, followed by a special Après Polo dinner with the teams – ‘Oscar de la Plenta.

The 6-chukker exhibition polo match will feature USA vs. Dominican Republic for a duration of approximately 2 hours.  The match will commence with the national anthems, and will conclude with an après polo culinary celebration including a pig roast, sold separately by advanced reservation.

Polo was popularized in the Caribbean nation during the mid-20th century as its social elite began playing in the capital, establishing several polo clubs.  The Dominican Republic is relatively new in the world polo community, launching its first international tournament series in 2015, but the sport enjoys an idyllic climate for high caliber play year round.  Trailing from a loss during the inaugural rivalry, it’s up to Team USA to bring the perpetual cup back to its home shores.  Representing the Dominican Republic will be Alexander Schad, Rodolfo Paliza, Pedro Cabrera, and Mauricio Bogaert.

“We are looking forward to bringing the Dominicans back this year.  They bring a certain zest, on and off the field, not to mention salsa and merengue,” explained Dan Keating, USA team captain and founder of the Polo Series.

Tickets to the match ($12 for General Admission and $20 for Pavilion seating) and to the après polo field-side dinner are sold at www.nptpolo.com.

During the match, a weekly door prize drawing of a magnum of Veuve Clicquot Champagne and prize for the Best Tailgate from Stella Artois will be awarded.  After 6 periods, called chukkers, the match will conclude with the Veuve Clicquot Champagne Toast & Trophy Presentation, as well as an autograph signing and cocktail hour to mingle with the players. The match will be followed by a special Après Polo event: Oscar de la Plenta – including a pig roast and special Caribbean menu; sold separately by advanced reservation, to break bread with the teams, as a highlight of the 2017 season.

Sponsored by Vanderbilt International Properties Ltd. , a boutique real estate firm specializing in waterfront homes and the most luxurious and unique properties across Rhode Island and the world.  The team will enjoy Stogies & Spirits at the Hotel Viking, explore the City of Arboreta tour this week, visit the famed Newport Mansions, enjoy helicopter tours with Birds Eye View, paddle boarding and surfing with Island Surf & Sport, tennis on the legendary courts of the International Tennis Hall of Fame, sail on 12 meter racing yachts with America’s Cup Charters, cruise the sights by scooter, bike, or scoot coupe from Scooter World, enjoy fine dining and dancing at the Clarke Cooke House, and visit the 47th annual Newport International Boat Show this weekend, all the great goings on in the City by the Sea.
