This weekend the NBC10 Newport International Polo Series, Presented by BMW, will feature two matches: Newport vs. Pittsburgh on Saturday, July 15 at 5 pm, and the All Charity Day Match on Sunday, July 16 at 5 pm.
For Saturday’s match, the Pittsburgh team has journeyed from afar with a steely resolve in hopes of sacking Newport this year, with Steelers Nation in tow. This match is the second in the City Series, a highlight of the season featuring challengers from around the US in classic 6-Chukka matches against the home team. Pittsburgh made its first appearance last season.
“Now that they know the lay of the land, we can expect a battle plan that has been a long winter in the making, and we’ll be ready for them,” explained Dan Keating, Newport captain and founder of the Polo Series.
During the match, a weekly door prize drawing of a designer handbag from Brahmin and prize for the Best Tailgate from Stella Artois will be awarded. The weekly door prize will be a Genuine leather handbag by Brahmin, the Polo Series’ newest sponsor and New England’s luxury leather designer with local boutique showroom on Bannister’s Wharf. After 6 periods, called chukkers, the match will conclude with the Veuve Clicquot Champagne Toast & Trophy Presentation, with special guest Katie Davis from the NBC 10 news team, as well as an autograph signing and cocktail hour to meet the players.
Tickets to the match ($12 for General Admission and $20 for Pavilion seating) are sold at www.nptpolo.com. Specialty vendors and concessionaires will be present in the Hospitality village at the polo grounds, including the Twisted Pony Bar, Newport Polo Pro Shop, and other specialty vendors and gourmet food trucks.
Then on Sunday, July 16th, the second annual All Charity Day will take place. The All Charity day is a fun afternoon fundraising opportunity for 501-c-3 organizations, with fast-paced polo action to benefit local charitable and civic organizations.
The 6-chukker match will begin at 5pm, featuring local teams competing. Entry gates will open at 4pm for those with advanced tickets, which are being sold byparticipating organizations listed here; 100% of ticket sales support these worthy civic and charitable organizations for the welfare of our community. Admission tickets will not be available for purchase at the entry gates on game day.
In its inaugural year, the 2016 All Charity Day drew 1,500 spectators, raising $15,000 for the 10 participating organizations. The beautiful, sunny July day included festive parties hosted by the organizations, a half-time dog parade, and a home team victory after a high-scoring match.
