More than 30 governors from across the United States will attend an event in Newport on July 15th during this year’s National Governors Association (NGA) Summer Meeting.

The Summer Meeting, which is scheduled for July 13th – 16th, is being hosted mainly in Providence by Governor Gina Raimondo.

The nation’s governors will meet to discuss some of the most pressing issues facing our nation and to share best practices on how to better serve the American public, according to the NGA website. Sessions at the Summer Meeting will particularly focus on states and the intersection between collaboration and innovation, all with a strong international focus.

Eisenhower House at Fort Adams State Park

On Saturday, July 15th, the governors will be among the expected 800 attendees that will attend an evening event outside on the lawn of The Eisenhower House at Fort Adams State Park. The event will include a live band, fireworks and food from Mcgrath’s Clambake, according to a Special Events License application filed with Newport City Hall.

The fireworks are scheduled to be shot off from the parking lot at The Eisenhower House at 9:30 pm and will last for approximately 12 1/2 minutes.

On the evening before, fireworks will be shot off from a barge in front of the Marble House for a private wedding.

Earlier in the day, TESLA and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk will speak at the meeting in Providence on the topic of “Closing Plenary: Ahead of the Curve.” Musk will be part of a conversation on emerging technologies and their effects on the energy and transportation sectors that are changing our everyday way of life. At the same session, Nevada Gov. Sandoval will unveil his 2017-18 chair’s initiative, Ahead of the Curve: Innovation Governors.

The NGA is the bipartisan organization of the nation’s governors. Through NGA, governors share best practices, speak with a collective voice on national policy and develop innovative solutions that improve state government and support the principles of federalism.

A request for comment from the National Governors Association has not been responded to.
