Rhode Island State House

It’s just about one month until the Democratic primary and two months from the Special Election fo fill the Senate 13 (Newport, Jamestown) seat that was long occupied by Teresa Paiva Weed.

There are currently four Democrats, one Republican, one Independent and one Green Party candidate running for the seat.

If you haven’t had any candidates coming to your door yet, expect it over the next few weeks. Several of the candidates (and their volunteers) are spending many hours every weekend pounding the pavement and knocking on doors.

While they may have thoughts and ideas for you, and even may let you ask a few questions, we want to give our readers the opportunity to have their questions answered by all seven candidates at once.

  • What questions would you like to have all seven candidates answer?

Of course, the questions you ask may depend greatly on who the person is or what party the candidate aligns with, but all of our State House representatives have the same job to do… so you can still have an idea.

Some other things to consider and answer when submitting questions if you wish;

  • What do you want from a local representative?
  • What do you think the top 3 priorities for the elected Senator should be?

From June 15th through June 23rd, we’ll be collecting questions from you, our amazing readers. From there we’ll present the best of them to each candidate and ask them to answer them by June 29th, we’ll publish all the answers on June 30th.

To submit your question or thoughts, comment below or e-mail Ryan@whatsupnewp.com.

We’ll be selecting a few of the other questions that you provide and will be asking the candidates live at What’sUpNewp’s Senate Candidate Forum on Monday, July 10th at Jane Pickens Theater & Event Center. The event is free and open to the public, RSVP HERE.

So there you go, what would you want to ask all seven candidates if they showed up at your doorstep?
