Here’s what’s happening for road work, closures and detours in and around Newport County this week.

Roadwork scheduled by Rhode Island Department Of Transportation: 6/17-6/23

Overnight

Newport: Rte. 138 East and West, from the Newport Bridge to Admiral Kalfbus Rd., partial right lane closures in a moving operation for roadway striping, Wednesday and Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following day.

Little Compton: Expect alternating lane closures in a moving operation for roadway striping on the following roads, Sunday-Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following day: Adamsville Rd.; Bramblewood Crossing; Colbrook Rd.; Rte. 81 (Crandall Rd.); East Main Rd.; Long Hwy.; Meeting House Lane; Mullen Hill Rd./Pottersville Rd.; Peckham Rd.; Rte. 77 (Sakonnet Point Rd.); Simmons Rd.; Snell Rd.; South of Commons Rd.; Rte. 179 (Stone Church Rd.); West Harbor Rd.; Rte. 77 (West Main Rd.); Westport Harbor Rd.

Portsmouth: Expect alternating lane closures in a moving operation for roadway striping on the following roads, Sunday-Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following day: Bristol Ferry Loop; Rte. 138 (East Main Rd.); Hummock Rd./Point Rd./Park Ave.; Middle Rd.; School House Lane; Sprague St.; Turnpike Ave.; Union St.; Rte. 114 (West Main Rd.)

Weekday

Jamestown: East Shore Rd. North, from Conanicus Ave. to Eldredge Ave., left shoulder closed in a moving operation for drainage work, Monday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Middletown: Rte. 114 (West Main Rd.) North, from Commercial St. to Rockwood Rd., possible lane shifts and closures for construction, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Portsmouth: Rte. 138 West, from Turnpike Ave. to Village Way, left shoulder closed for construction, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Ongoing Restriction

Newport: In order to accommodate construction work at the Newport Transportation and Visitors Center, motorists will experience a right lane closure on America’s Cup Ave., from Gladys Carr Bolhouse Rd. to West Marlborough St., through June 2017.  RIPTA has designated temporary bus stop locations along America’s Cup Avenue since the Visitors’ Center boarding area will be closed for the duration of the project.  For more information, please visit https://www.ripta.com/newport-gateway-center

Bristol/Jamestown/Newport/Portsmouth/Tiverton: The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RITBA) is responsible for maintenance and construction activities on the Jamestown-Verrazzano, Newport Pell, Mt. Hope and Sakonnet River bridges. Click here for more information.

Newport/Jamestown: Rte. 138 on the Newport Pell Bridge, only one lane of traffic is open for Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority bridge deck repair work until late June. Expect delays.

Newport Pell Bridge: Eastbound Right Lane Closure -6/19 to 6/23- 8 am to 2:30 pm. East Shore Road Lane Closures- 6/19 to 6/23- 7 am to 3:30 pm. Overnight: Eastbound and Westbound Lane Closures-6/19 to 6/22 -9 pm to 5 am
*NPB Roadway Deck Repair Project*
-For the period from 5/30 to 6/29 there will be work taking place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with
Permanent Lane Closures and single lanes of travel on the Newport side of the bridge both East
and Westbound. The Eastbound Open Road Tolling (ORT) Lane will also be closed during this
period.

Jamestown Verrazzano Bridge: There are currently no Lane Closures on the Jamestown Verrazzano Bridge.

Route 138 Connector: There are currently no Lane Closures on the Route 138 Connector.

Mount Hope Bridge: Overnight: Northbound Lane Closure- 6/18 and 6/22- 8 pm to 5 am

Sakonnet River Bridge: There are currently no Lane Closures on the Sakonnet River Bridge. The Rhode Island Department of Transportation is currently removing the old Sakonnet River Bridge and occasionally
will have Southbound lane closures on Route 24 to allow construction vehicles to enter and leave the site.
