Here are the biggest events happening in June 2017 – expect some of the biggest crowds this month to gather at the following events.

June 1st – Newport Car Museum Opens in Portsmouth – Newport Car Museum has announced they will officially open their doors for the first time in Portsmouth on June 1. A private collection of some 50 automobiles at the museum, which is located at 1847 West Main Road in Portsmouth,  focuses on six decades of modern industrial automotive design and celebrates cars as works of art. June 3rd – St. Mary’s Church “Festival of Pipes” Celebration Will Feature First Public Performance of its Refurbished 1,900-Pipe Organ – The glorious sound of St. Mary’s Church 1,900-pipe organ, the Casavant Op.2463, will be unveiled on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the “Festival of Pipes” celebration, beginning at 2 p.m. The occasion marks the premiere performance of the massive newly refurbished pipe organ for the public.

June 3rd – IYRS Graduation & Launch Day – IYRS students, along with their friends, families and the Newport community, gather each year to celebrate a unique accomplishment that few get to experience; launching and sailing restored boats that were built over the course of the previous nine months. June 3rd – Newport Polo Opens 26th Season – On Saturday, June 3rd at 5 pm, Peru will make its debut as the 33rd nation to compete against USA, on Opening Day of theNBC10 Newport International Polo Series XXVI, Presented by BMW.  More Info

June 4th – Newport 10 Miler – A 10 mile road race around Newport’s historic Ocean Drive. Starting and finishing in the walls of the Fort Adams Fortress this event will be one of the most unique road races in Rhode Island featuring stunning views from start to finish. More Info

June 8th – D-Day Over Normandy at Jane Pickens Theater – World War II Foundation Presents D-Day: Over Normandy Presented by BankNewport & OceanPoint Insurance The public is invited to a Newport premiere of the new documentary film D-Day: Over Normandy narrated by the only five-time Super Bowl-winning head coach in NFL history, Bill Belichick. June 9 thru 11 – Newport MetreFest 2017 – Newport MetreFest is an exciting new regatta for International Rule sailing yachts including 2.4mR, 6mR, 8mR and 12mRs. Three days of racing, hosted by New York Yacht Club, with support from Ida Lewis Yacht Club and Sail Newport will be run in conjunction with NYYC’s Annual Regatta from June 9th, 2017 – June 11th, 2017. Sail Newport will provide dockage for all of the boats at their Fort Adams facility, enabling both sailors and spectators to walk the docks and appreciate the formula designs from vintage through more modern boats up close. Admission to walk the docks (before and after racing daily) is free of charge. More Info

June 10th – Annual Visitors Day at Swiss Village Farm – Swiss Village Farm (SVF) will open their doors on Saturday, June 10th from 9 am to 3 pm to allow the public to tour their grounds and to learn about endangered breeds and cryo-preservation. The only day of the year that SVF is open to the public, visitors are invited to take self-guided tours through the historic grounds and take a peek into their state-of-the-art facilities and meet the SVF laboratory, veterinary, and animal care staff. More Info

June 10th – 36th Annual Great Chowder Cook-Off – Newport Waterfront Events’ 36th Annual Great Chowder Cook-Off, featuring more than a dozen restaurants, will take place on Saturday, June 10th from noon to 6:00 p.m. at Fort Adams State Park. Admission to the Great Chowder Cook-Off also includes a variety of entertainment, including Matunuck Oyster Farm’s Newport Oyster Festival featuring its famous lobster rolls and raw bar, Oyster Shucking & Slurping Contests, Beer Shucking, live music from The Ravers, Cee Cee and the Riders and The Brian Scott Band, the Stop & Shop Culinary Stage with cooking demos and educational workshops, sponsor sampling and a number of activities for the littlenecks.  Aside from the all-you-can-eat chowder, there will be a host of other food options for sale from Saugy Inc., Ben & Jerry’s, Kettle Korn Express, Del’s Lemonade and Red’s Food Truck, as well as full bars serving beer, wine and summer-themed cocktails. More Info

June 10th – Barrel Of Laughs Comedy Show – An evening of wine and a barrel of laughs at Newport Vineyards as host and comedian Jeremy Furtado welcomes comedians from around the region and headliner Tim Dillon. Tim is a NY-based comic who was a breakout at the 2016 Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in the ‘New Faces’ category. Recently he won the title of ‘NY’s Funniest’ at the New York Comedy Festival where he also headlined three sellout shows on a double decker tour bus throughout Manhattan’s wealthiest neighborhoods. Tim has performed on the Oddball Comedy and Oddity Tour, and was featured on NBC’s ‘Last Comic Standing’, ‘The Chris Gethard Show’ on Fusion, Fox’s Red Eye, AXS TV’s Gotham Comedy Live, Comedy Knockout for ‘TruTV’, and season 2 of ‘WYFD’ with Big Jay Oakerson for Seeso. He is also the host of his own podcast ‘Tim Dillon is Going to Hell.’ More Info

June 10th thru 12th – 20+ Local Attractions Will Offer Free Admission For Newport County Residents and Hospitality Employees – Newport County residents and hospitality industry employees are invited to visit many great local attractions from Saturday, June 10 through Monday, June 12, 2017. June 16th thru 18th – Newport Spring Secret Garden Tours – Join Secret Garden Tours for self-guided walking tours of private gardens located in historic Newport, Rhode Island. Each tour features about a dozen beautiful gardens. The tours run daily from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM and tickets are good for any or all days of the tour, allowing for inclement weather, schedule conflicts, or just a late start. More Info

June 16th – Au Courant: Swim Resort at Fort Adams – Join Style Week for this amazing event and runway shows from Jessica Abernethy, KARO Swimwear, Gypsetgirl & KaliKa in addition to an installation of Derek Warburton’s new fine jewelry line, Mr. Warburton. June 17th – Pierre Cardin Fashion Show at the Breakers – Legendary fashion designer Pierre Cardin will personally host a fashion runway show at The Breakers, a spectacular intro to a new fashion exhibition highlighting his most iconic work that will be on display at Rosecliff Mansion through the end of 2017.  More Info

June 19th thru 23rd – Newport Charter Yacht Show – The 2017 Newport Charter Yacht Show showcases luxury charter yachts alongside a display of ancillary goods and services for the yacht charter industry. More Info

June 23rd thru 25th- 22nd Annual Newport Flower Show – Newport Flower Show, themed Fête Des Fleurs: Paintings and Parterres will take place at Rosecliff from Friday, June 23 through Sunday, June 25, 2017. America’s premier summer flower show will transport guests’ imaginations to France, the place that has inspired generations of artists and gardeners. More Info

June 23rd – Fort Adams Trust Summer Solstice – Join Fort Adams Trust for their annual Fort Adams Trust Annual Summer Solstice Fundraiser. “An Evening of Revelry”, on Friday, June 23rd from 6 – 10 PM. The evening will include catering provided by Blackstone Caterers, a champagne sunset toast, cannon salute, live auction, music and dancing, open bar and more! Tickets are $75 per person.
