Patricia “Pat” J. (Teves) Marques Maida, 79, of Middletown died unexpectedly on Friday, March 10, 2017, at Newport Hospital after a brief illness.

Born on September 30, 1937 in Fall River, MA, she was the daughter of the late Seraphin and Georgina (Medeiros) Teves.

Pat was born and grew up in Fall River, and graduated from Bridgewater State College with her teaching degree. She worked as a school teacher in Fall River for 35 years at several schools. She retired after spending her last 15 years at the Westall School. Pat was also well known by her extended family at the Newport Marriot where she was a hostess for over 25 years. She moved to Aquidneck Island in 1982 and quickly became an active member of the community. She volunteered at the Newport Music Festival, a part time tour guide at the Old Colony House and volunteer at the polling stations during voting season. She was a longtime communicant of St. Lucy’s Church and served as a CCD teacher for several years. Pat enjoyed traveling the world especially when she was accompanied on an adventure with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Jodie Marques of Middletown, RI, John Marques of Parrish, FL and Jeff Marques of Somerset, MA. Her sister Beverly Wagenbach of Somerset, MA, her grandchildren, Nicole Turner of Cumberland, RI, John Marques IV of Round Rock, TX, Jackie Correia of Middletown, RI, Rachel Correia of Arlington, VA, Liz Marques of Fall River, MA and Lauren Marques of Somerset, MA, her great grandchildren, Kelsie Turner, Sophia Turner and Kyrein Sroczynski, and her niece Lisa Wagenbach of Middletown, RI.

A Mass will be held on Monday, March 13, at 10:30am, in St. Lucy’s Church, 909 West Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be private.
