Chefs from Kinsale, Ireland, will descend on Newport for a week of culinary and cultural exchange.
This March, the City by the Sea will embrace its 40th Annual Irish Heritage Month. This year, the occasion is marked with a savory new experience. Local restaurants will welcome guest chefs and restaurants from Kinsale, the “Gourmet Capital of Ireland,” located in County Cork. Kinsale and Newport have shared a sister city partnership since 2002.
“We’re very excited and extremely grateful to have the restaurateurs from our sister city, Kinsale, able to make the long journey and join us in the 40th anniversary of the Newport Irish Heritage Association,” stated Paul Shea, volunteer organizer and facilitator of the event.
The Newport-Kinsale Chef Exchange will kick off on Thursday, March 2, 2017, with a tasting event from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Hibernian Hall located at 2 Wellington Avenue in Newport. Tickets are $25 each and available at Hibernian Hall while supply last.
Local participating restaurants include La Forge Casino Restaurant, Malt on Broadway, Midtown Oyster Bar, Main Sail at the Newport Marriott, The Fastnet Irish Pub and caterers McGrath Clambakes and Kitchen Companion. Partner restaurants from Kinsale include the culinary teams from Actons Hotel’s Sidney’s Bar & Brasserie and Fisher Street Restaurant, The Blue Haven Restaurant & Bar and Aperitif Wine & Tapas Bar, The Bulman & Toddies Restaurant, and Restaurant d’Antibes & The Bistro at The White House.
