General Flynn grew up in Middletown, RI and graduated from Middletown High School. He is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island ROTC program with a Bachelor of Science degree in management science, and earned three master’s degrees during his 33-year career in the U.S. Army, retiring in 2014 as Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency and Senior Military Intelligence Officer in the Department of Defense. General Flynn is the recipient of two honorary doctorates from the Institute of World Politics in Washington, DC and the University of Rhode Island.
