Island Moving Co., Newport’s contemporary ballet company presents a new site specific production, in the tradition of its renowned Newport Nutcracker at Rosecliff and the Company’s legendary Dracula at Belcourt Castle.
In partnership with RI’s new Tall Ship, the Oliver Hazard Perry, Artistic Director Miki Ohlsen presents Second Star to the Right: A Tale of Hook and Pan, danced on the North Pier at Fort Adams and the decks and rigging of the Oliver Hazard Perry. Performances are September 8, 9 & 10th, with a performance added September 9th at 4pm. The September 9th evening performance at 6pm includes a cast party with the performers after the show. Call Island Moving Co. at 847-4470 to receive an invitation. Second Star to the Right is not suitable for children under 10 years of age. Tickets begin at $95 and are available at www.islandmovingco.org.
Danced to an original score by Tobias Andrews, Second Star to the Right features the Island Moving Co. dancers as well as community members and musicians. Members of the Oliver Hazard Perry’s crew worked with IMC dancers to train young dancers on the ship’s rigging at a two day Adventure Camp earlier in the summer. Cast members include skateboarders, paddle boarders and local artists.
The ballet is presented with support from the Oliver Hazard Perry and Fort Adams, with a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Sponsors include Bart Dunbar and Lisa Lewis and Discover Newport. Sponsorships of Second Star to the Right are still available. Contact Island Moving Co. at 401 847-4470.
