Visiting Nurse Services of Newport and Bristol Counties is pleased to announce the appointment of Erin Kopecky, RN, as the new Director of Hospice and Palliative Care, effective August 16.
In this position Ms. Kopecky will oversee the running of Hospice at VNS, a division of Visiting Nurse Services. Hospice at VNS is a program for patients with a life-limiting expectancy of six months or less that offers comprehensive care at end of life available through the Medicare Hospice benefit. Hospice at VNS also offers Palliative Care to seriously ill patients who are still in active treatment but who benefit from the pain and symptom management of a Hospice-quality program. Ms. Kopecky will oversee a Hospice staff that includes a medical director, Hospice-trained skilled nurses, home health aides, social workers, dietitians, physical and occupational therapists, volunteers, and a chaplain and bereavement coordinator.
Ms. Kopecky has most recently been the Hospice Admission Manager for Gentiva Hospice in Warwick, RI. In this capacity she managed the Admissions team and grew the Hospice census. She was an educator on the Medicare Hospice benefit and eligibility criteria. Ms. Kopecky has deep professional experience in the Hospice industry, including as a manager growing Hospice referral sources and admissions, as a professional educator on Hospice benefits and as a direct provider of Hospice nursing services to patients.
Ms. Kopecky is a resident of Warren, RI, where she lives with her husband Scott and three teenage children. She is very involved in the community through the Town of Warren Charter Commission, the Mt. Hope Boosters Club, the Christopher Stone Fund, and the Rhode Island Rhode Runners.
