Rep. Lauren H. Carson (D-Dist. 75, Newport)

Representative Lauren Carson (D – District 75, Newport) called into my show, The Open Forum, on WADK 1540 AM today to announced that she would be filing candidacy declaration paperwork on Tuesday and would be seeking re-election to represent District 75.

Hear The Announcement:

Carson was elected in November, 2014 after out-seating former District 75 Representative, Peter Martin. In her first term she has been a member of the House Oversight Committee and the House Small Business Committee.

“Representative Carson has been particularly active on issues related to the environment, small business, tourism and government transparency. In 2015, she sponsored the creation of two commissions, one to study the economic impact of sea rise on Rhode Island, and another to study ways to expand tourism through effective statewide branding efforts,” states her General Assembly biography.

As of 2:30 p.m. on Monday, no one had declared candidacy to challenger her for the position.

June 27, 28 and 29 are the dates in 2016 for filing declarations to be candidates in primaries or to be independent candidates in the general election. Candidates for federal office and independent presidential electors file with the Department of State’s Elections Division. Candidates for gerneral assembly, local offices, district committees and local committees file with local boards of canvassers where the candidate is registered to vote.
