Newport Polo will kick-off their 25th season on Saturday, June 4th when the Newport International Polo Series features USA vs. Mexico at 5pm.

The 2016 Season will feature teams from around the world and from major U.S. cities playing against U.S.A. / Newport. The season is shaping to be an exciting one with action-packed polo matches, the International Polo Charity Ball and other special events.

All matches will take place at the Newport International Polo Grounds & Pavilion at Glen Farm – 250 Linden Lane, Portsmouth

On Opening Day (June 4th), the Mexican team returns to defend its 2015 victory, led by Captain Miguel Gomez de Parada and top players from Mexico City, home of Mexico’s oldest polo club. Polo has been popular in Mexico since the late nineteenth century, and this rivalry represents a historic return to its roots, since it was a baronial family from Mexico that witnessed polo first in Newport in the 1880’s, and then introduced the sport in Mexico! Today Mexico is home to some of the world’s most renown players.

“They will be a tough team to beat, and we will have to bring our best game to meet the challenge,” explained Dan Keating, USA team captain and founder of the Polo Series.

During the match, a weekly door prize drawing and the Best Tailgate will be awarded. After 6 periods, called chukkers, the match will conclude with the Veuve Clicquot Champagne Toast & Trophy Presentation by Atria Senior Living, as well as an autograph signing and cocktail hour to mingle with the players.

I recently caught up with Keating for an hour on WADK 1540 AM about polo and their 25th Season, listen to the podcast here – Podcast #108: Talking Polo with Dan Keating, Founder and President of Newport Polo.
