Marc Allen Fine Clothiers, with locations in Providence and Newport, Rhode Island was named the best ‘Retail Window Display’ among local businesses for its artful and elegant design during the 21st annual Newport Flower Show.
The winning display, located at 142 Bellevue Avenue, features samples of Marc Allen’s bespoke, made-to-measure and ready-to-wear wear clothing, surrounding by art reflecting this year’s theme, Gilded – Artful Living. “We take great pride in the artistic design of our showrooms, and feel that our window displays are extensions of the art that we create within our space,” said Marc Streisand, owner of Marc Allen Fine Clothiers. “We could not be more flattered to be honored by the fine folks at the Newport Flower Show.”

Local merchants enter the Newport Flower Show’s Retail Window Display division each year, transforming their storefronts to reflect the theme of the show. Inspired by the Gilded Age, this year’s theme honors the era when nearly every aspect of life was elevated to an art form and the goal was to embellish and enhance what nature had already provided. The Retail Window Display division promotes synergy between businesses in Newport, the Newport Flower Show, and the many visitors in town for the event.

Designer Pablo Monroy used inspiration from the opulence and attention to detail characterized by the Gilded Age. “I wanted to make something that was elegant, but fun at the same time, fitting with Newport’s architecture and history, as well as Marc Allen’s style,” Monroy said. The result was a display with a man wearing a colorful outfit going through a frame into a golden world with oversized floating objects. Monroy was able to balance the objects with Marc Allen merchandise.
The display was chosen by a panel of judges, who surveyed dozens of entries. “I can share some of the comments from the judges with one collective response: fabulous,” said Lynn Covell, Chair of the Retail Window Display division at the Newport Flower Show. Marc Allen’s display will remain throughout the weekend of the Flower Show, which begins on Friday, June 24 and runs through Sunday, June 26. “We look forward to the many guests arriving in Newport this weekend and invite them to come by our shop to not only take a peek at our windows, but come inside and experience what Marc Allen Fine Clothiers has to offer,” Streisand said.
