Friday through Sunday – newportFILM Sports Festival: Lights, camera, action meets game, set, match, when film buffs and sports fans gather for a packed weekend of sports documentaries and programming hosted at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I. The inaugural newportFILM SPORTS film festival is set for April 29 – May 1, 2016. newportFILM SPORTS is a joint venture between newportFILM and the International Tennis Hall of Fame. 8pm – Live Improv Comedy with The Bit Players at The Firehouse Theater: RI’s most award-winning comedy troupe hits the stage with their hilarious improv show full of larger than life characters, hysterical musical numbers, & the quickest wit you’ll ever see EVERY Fri & Sat night at 8pm. If you are going for a special occasion & would like a person(s) of honor to be part of the show let us know in advance. We will create a customized game just for your group! 9am – Earth Day Cleanup at Ballard Park: Volunteer to give to Newport’s Only Nature Preserve a Spring cleaning! Clean up starts at 9 AM. All are invited to partake in a free tour of Ballard Park at 11AM when staff of Friend’s of Ballard Park will share the site’s history and point out some of its unquie features. Meet at Hazard Road entrance. Come for one or both. Rain Date: May 1st
12pm to 3pm and 4pm to 7pm – 5th Annual Craft Beer Festival: Voted best Beer Fest in Rhode Island by RI Monthly Magazine in 2015, the Newport Craft Beer Festival is back for another round of the finest craft beers this side of the Newport Bridge and beyond! NOTE: This event has sold out!
6pm – Light Of The World Ballet : As part of the Kingdom Breakthrough New England event organized locally by EFC Newport and Crosspoint Churches, the first ballet performance is 6 p.m. Saturday April 30, Rogers High School Auditorium, 15 Wickham Road. A second performance will be held on Sunday May 1, at the 11 a.m. joint worship service at Jane Pickens Theatre, 49 Touro Street. Admission is free and open to all. 7pm – Popup Movie Night featuring Breakfast at Tiffanys at Hotel Viking: Girls Night Out at Hotel VIking! They’ll be showing the classic Breakfast at Tiffany’s at Kay Chapel starting at 7:00pm. 11:30 am – 2016 Aquidneck Island National Police Parade: The Aquidneck Island National Police Parade will include over 100 marching units with spectator favorites such as the Cathedral High School all girls marching band, the Boy Scouts of America Marching Band, The New York Police Departments world renowned Brass Band, Newport’s own Ancient Order of Hibernian’s as well as bagpipers from throughout New England and of course other family fun groups. The Parade will begin at 11:30 A.M. sharp in front of the Hampton Inn on West Main Rd with a small opening ceremony and a step off at 11:50 A.M. The parade will proceed southbound on West Main Rd into Newport and ends at the review stand located in Washington Square. 3pm – Piano Concert with Clemens Teufel: The Redwood is delighted to present classical pianist Clemens Teufel in his debut concert at the Redwood on Sunday, May 1 at 3:00 pm. Mr. Teufel will perform pieces from Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt, and Frederic ChopinBorn in Frankfurt, Germany, Clemens Teufel received his first piano lessons at the age of seven. Described as “Red-hot German Pianist” by the Cape Ann Beacon and commended for “incredibly sensitive playing” by the Weilheimer Tagblatt, Teufel studied at the Academy of Music in Weimar, founded by famed Hungarian pianist Franz Liszt in 1872, and graduated with honors in the master class of Professor Lev Natochenny from the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. Clemens Teufel has appeared in concerts throughout Europe and the United States.Admission is $10 for members, $15 for non-members.
