The Pell Center at Salve Regina University will host a community event, “Watershed in Focus,” on Wednesday, March 16 at 7 p.m. in Bazarsky Lecture Hall, located in O’Hare Academic Center on Ochre Point Avenue. The event is free and open to the public.
Moderated by Jameson Chace, associate professor in Salve Regina’s department of Biology and Biomedical Sciences, the event brings together experts in the areas of watershed monitoring, hydrological research, community action, infrastructural planning and source water protection for a discussion on challenges and potential solutions.
Aquidneck Island’s 60,000 residents rely primarily on surface water for their drinking water supply. The region’s watersheds have been impacted in a variety of ways during 350 years of human development, and now these small, urban coastal watersheds are gaining considerable attention for the issues they face.
Panelists will Kelly Addy, research associate in the University of Rhode Island’s watershed hydrology lab; Charles Allott, executive director of the Aquidneck Land Trust; Thomas Ardito, executive director of the Aquidneck Island Planning Commission; Elizabeth Herron, coordinator of the University of Rhode Island’s Watershed Watch program; and David McLaughlin, executive director of Clean Ocean Access.
