Anthony Spiratos took to his Facebook Page on Monday to announced that he would be suspending his run for State Senate, District 13 (Jamestown & Newport) in order to give enough time to someone who can devote the time that will be necessary to win.
Spiratos announced in July of 2015 that he would be running against Senate President M. Theresa Paiva Weed.
Paiva Weed was first elected to the Rhode Island Senate in 1992. In January 2009, Senator Paiva Weed was first elected by her colleagues to serve as President of the Senate. Senator Paiva Weed is the first woman in Rhode Island’s history to serve in this capacity. Senator Paiva Weed was re-elected President in 2011, 2013 and 2015.
