Now in its fourth year, #GivingTuesday is a global 24-hour online campaign dedicated to encouraging people to make donations to charities, volunteer and support philanthropic efforts.
Observed on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.
Give Back Locally
There are countless nonprofits and causes to support on this Giving Tuesday, it would be unfair for us to single one, two or ten out here because there are 278 registered nonprofits located in Newport according to GUIDESTAR.
Find a cause there that means something to you, your friends or family and donate your time, your money or see how else you can be of assistance throughout the holiday season.
Giving Tuesday History
Created in 2012 by 92nd Street Y—a cultural center in New York City that, since 1874, has been bringing people together around the values of service and giving back—#GivingTuesday connects diverse groups of individuals, communities and organizations around the world for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving.
