Heads up, it’s going to be a great weekend in and around Newport! With the Bowen’s Wharf Seafood Festival, Fortress Of Nightmares, International Oktoberfest and activities like the Trinity Pumpkin Patch it’s one of the best weekends of the year around here!

1 – Opening Night of Fortress Of Nightmares

Friday from 6pm – 10pm

Experience the Tunnels of Terror, try your hand at Zombie Laser Tag or take in the Killer Film Fest. Those 12 and under can head to the Kids Fun House for snacks, crafts and trick-or-treating. If you miss opening night don’t worry. Fortress of Nightmares continues October 17, 18, 23, 24 & 25. More Info 

2 – Laser Tag Battles

Friday from 10 am – 4pm and Friday, Saturday, & Sunday from 6pm – 10pm.

Fort Adams will be holding laser tag battles in the inner ditch area of the fort. Participants can wage their own battles against their opponents. Each game will cost $8 per participant.

The laser tag games start October 10, 2015 and will be played on October 10th – 12th, 15th – 16th & 24th – 25th on the hour from 10 AM to 4 PM.  

Unique Halloween themed games will also be played in the evenings during Fortress of Nightmares October 16th – 18th and October 23rd – 25th between the hours of 6 – 10 PM. The laser tag games will end October 25th resuming again in the spring. More Info

3 – Bowen’s Wharf Seafood Festival

Saturday (11 a.m. – 6 p.m.) & Sunday (11 a.m. – 5 p.m.)

Named one of the “10 Fabulous Fall Festivals on the Coast,” by Coastal Living Magazine, this event is an open invitation to come back to the Newport waterfront after the rush of the summer season!

Honoring the “Harvest of the Sea,” the Bowen’s Wharf Seafood Festival offers fresh, local seafood. Fish tacos from Diego’s Restaurant, signature cocktails and cold New England beer accompany continuous live music, and family fun, all beneath the Wharf’s colorful tents. More Info

4 – Halloween Movie Night

Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Ballard Park

In addition to the screening of two movies Hotel Transylvania (at 6pm) and Young Frankenstein (at 8pm), the free evening will include a Halloween costume parade and contest, a meet and greet with members of the Newport Fire Department and give-away of daffodil bulbs by Newport Daffodillion. More Info

5 – Annual International Oktoberfest

Saturday & Sunday at India Point Park in Providence

Biergartens, bratwurst and Bavarian music will all be on tap at India Point Park, Providence, the new home of the 23rd Annual International Oktoberfest, that’s set to take place on Saturday, October 17th from noon to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, October 18th from noon to 6:00 p.m.

The Festival, which celebrates everything German, had a very long, successful run at the Newport Yachting Center in Newport, Rhode Island until the property was sold last fall.  Now, the Providence waterfront will soon be the place to find a variety of seasonal brews, full bars offering cocktails and other libations, hearty German food and live Bavarian and American entertainment.  The Festival is only open to guests who are 21+ so proper ID is required upon entry.
