Naval Hospital Property May Become New City Park

At their regularly scheduled meeting on September 28th, the Newport City Council will vote on a resolution that would look to create a new city park on theNavy Hospital property.

“There are many reasons to be excited about this resolution. Not the least of which is that the Navy Hospital property is one of the few opportunities to connect the northern part of Newport to the waterfront. With the increased interest in development of the north end of Newport, it’s especially important to maintain publicly available open space. While this resolution is the first step, it’s an important one,” Newport Open Space Partnership shared in an e-mail newsletter on Tuesday.

The Newport Open Space Partnership is a partnership between the City of Newport, Newport Tree & Open Space Commission, Aquidneck Land Trust, Aquidneck Island Planning Commission and Newport Tree Society.

The Newport Open Space Partnership encourages residents to “take a moment to contact the city council and thank them for supporting this important initiative.”

The following resolution, Creating a park at the site of the Naval Hospital property, is being introduced by Councilors Justin McLaughlin and Naomi Neville.
