Once again Cheryl Wheeler, the internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter and stand-up comic who sits down, returns to Common Fence Music on Saturday, September 17 at 8 p.m. to open the 24th Season.

The performance will take place at Common Fence Music, 933 Anthony Road, Portsmouth, R.I.  Tickets are $35 both in advance and at the door. Advance tickets are available through Brown Paper Tickets from 3 to 5 pm on the day of the concert and when the doors open until sold out.

Call Brown Paper Tickets toll free at (800) 838-3006 or contact them via www.commonfencemusic.org.  Call (401) 683-5085 or visit the website for general information and to leave a message.  Doors open at 7 pm for the “folk-tailgate party.” Don’t forget your picnic basket!

Cheryl’s concerts suggest a comedy club outing more than a folk music concert. She will tell a story that has you rolling in the aisles, and then sing a song that leaves you wiping tears from your eyes. She will talk about some serious current event, and then sing a song that will have you howling with laughter. Her entire concert is an emotional roller coaster.

According to Cheryl, her area audience prefers her performances at Common Fence Music more than any other venue for its intimate setting, pre-show chow down and accessibility to the performer.
Cheryl has long been hailed as a songwriter’s songwriter. Her songs have been covered by Peter, Paul & Mary, Bette Midler, Juice Newton and Garth Brooks, to name a few.

Originally a native of Maryland, she has lived in the general Southern New England area for much of her adult life. So when she’s not on tour nationally or internationally, she is regularly entertaining area audiences with her particular blend of song and comedy. And the room is always full, so get your tickets early for this show.

Opening for Cheryl is the up-and-coming Providence-based singer-songwriter, Seamus Galligan.

Common Fence Music is a non-profit with a mission to promote culturally relevant but underexposed folk, roots and world music through concerts and educational activities. Seasonal soups, homemade refreshments and soft-drinks are available. The hall is fully  accessible to all members of the general public.
