Newport City Hall

As a fellow descendant and cousin through our shared 17th-century Newport family roots, I have a special appreciation for Elizabeth Cullen’s deep love for and connection to our historic city.

What gives me confidence in Beth is her 30 years of active community engagement and demonstrated leadership. As president of the Point Association, she learned how to bring people together, navigate competing priorities, listen to residents, do the often unglamorous work necessary to keep an organization running, and advocate effectively for the community.

Her service on the school committee further strengthened her ability to examine budgets, understand government operations, ask difficult questions, and hold public institutions accountable.

Those are precisely the skills Newport needs on its city council. Beth will approach municipal issues with preparation, curiosity, and a willingness to understand the details before making decisions. She will work with residents, businesses, city staff, and fellow councilors to find practical solutions and modernize ordinances that no longer serve the community well.

Just as importantly, Beth understands Newport’s future must be built on respect for its past. She will honor and protect the historic character, neighborhoods, and traditions that define our city while ensuring our policies, infrastructure, and regulations evolve to meet the needs of a changing community.

Beth brings the leadership, independence, collaborative spirit, and municipal focus needed to serve Newport well. I am proud to endorse her for City Council.
