I’m writing in support of Penny Hunt for Newport School Committee. She has proven she has the knowledge, dedication, and character to make a real difference for all Newport families and residents.
I first met Penny through her active participation in the Off Broadway Neighborhood Association and Involve Newport, where she worked to make our neighborhoods better places to live. With her background in community banking and affordable housing finance, she became a trusted source for updates on city tax policy and the financing of public projects, including schools and housing. She understands that Newport needs to support young families with both good housing options and great educational opportunities.
Penny was a key member of the ad hoc committee that successfully proposed the Two-Tier Residential Tax Program to help year-round residents. She showed her dedication through detailed research and an ability to balance competing interests. As a parent herself, she will bring those same qualities, along with firsthand experience, to the complex issues facing Newport schools.
Thank you to all the candidates volunteering to serve our city. Please join me in voting for Penny Hunt for School Committee.
