Puddingstone Music has announced two intimate salon-style concerts to close out its summer season, following its second annual festival at the Casino Theatre.
On August 14, pianist Randy Ingram brings his trio to the Jamestown Arts Center for “Sound Within: A Celebration of Bill Evans,” with doors at 7 p.m. and music at 7:30 p.m. The concert carries particular historical weight: drummer Joe La Barbera performed in Bill Evans’s final trio and became a mentor to Ingram during his formative years in Southern California. Bassist Rufus Reid served a stint in Evans’s trio in 1978, including engagements at New York’s Village Vanguard and the Jazz Workshop in Boston. Ingram has been praised as “astute, self-possessed” by The New York Times and received a 4.5-star DownBeat review for his 2024 trio record Aries Dance.
On August 21, guitarist and composer Thatcher Harrison performs at Rough Point in Newport, doors at 7 p.m., concert at 7:30 p.m. Harrison moves fluidly between classical, jazz, and contemporary influences; the program includes Gershwin’s “Love Is Here to Stay” alongside original works. A selection of paintings by Rhode Island artist and educator Kevin Calisto will be on display during the evening. A terrace reception and artist meet-and-greet follow the concert.
