The Tiverton Four Corners Arts Center will host an illustrated lecture by internationally recognized rug scholar Peter Pap on Tuesday, August 4, followed by the arts center’s inaugural Antique Rug Trunk Show August 5–7.
Pap’s lecture, Understanding Antique Rugs: Exploring the History and Learning the Finer Points of Color and Design in Rugs Woven Before 1900, runs from 4 to 5 p.m. at the arts center, 3850 Main Road. An opening reception follows from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., with a preview of the trunk show. Reservations are required at info@FourCorners.org.
The trunk show opens to the public Wednesday through Friday, August 5–7, with daily hours from 9 to 11 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. Ten percent of rug sales benefit the arts center. Collectors may take rugs home on approval, and Pap will offer private in-home consultations and appraisals by appointment.
Pap has spent more than five decades studying and writing about antique rugs, served sixteen seasons as a guest appraiser on PBS’s Antiques Roadshow, and has exhibited for 27 consecutive years at The Winter Show in New York. His essay “The Great Beigeing of Decor” appears in the July/August 2026 issue of The Magazine ANTIQUES.
