MIDDLETOWN, RI — Rogers softball turned a road trip to Middletown into a four-inning showcase Tuesday, pounding out 12 hits and pulling away for a 17-3 run-rule win over the Islanders at Middletown High School.

Lila Leys did the heavy lifting on both sides of the ball for the Vikings. The sophomore went 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs at the plate, and threw all four innings in the circle, scattering three hits, walking none and striking out eight to earn the win. She allowed just one earned run.

Rogers, now 11-1 under coach Shea Milburn, never let Middletown settle in. The Vikings plated two in the top of the first, added five in the second and one in the third before sending 13 batters to the plate in a nine-run fourth to end it.

Senior shortstop Tess Margolis paced the lineup with a 3-for-4 day, ripping a triple, driving in two runs and stealing a base. Senior center fielder Amelia Wallace went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Freshman Emma Brown added two hits, including a triple, and two RBIs out of the No. 3 hole.

Charlotte Plowden chipped in a double, two RBIs and a walk. Alexandra Brown reached base three times and scored three runs. Leila Costa added a hit and an RBI off the bench, and Maeve Higgins drew three walks and scored three times.

For the Islanders, who slipped to 6-3, starter Riley Sexton wore the loss after being charged with 17 runs, 15 earned, on 12 hits and seven walks over four innings. The senior threw 112 pitches.

Middletown’s offense managed three hits against Leys. Evangeline Gross laced a double, Delaney King had a base hit and drove in the Islanders’ only RBI of the day, and Finley Berard added a single and scored a run. Juliana Brett reached on a hit by pitch and stole a base, and Brystol Rodrigues swiped a bag as well.

Three Middletown errors, all charged to Lorelei Elshant, helped Rogers extend the damage in the fourth.

The Vikings have now won 10 in a row since their lone loss of the season.
