The Newport City Council will meet Wednesday, Jan. 7, to begin discussions on the city’s annual Capital Improvement Plan.

The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. at Innovate Newport and is open to the public.

The capital improvement planning process covers a range of projects, from playgrounds to seawalls and resiliency-related initiatives. The process is designed to be dynamic and responsive to changes in service demands, infrastructure conditions and emerging goals as defined by the council, according to the city.

While the CIP is intended to be a planning document, it offers a preview of projects likely to be funded through the next budget cycle and is one of the city’s more commonly referenced guides.

Councilors are also expected to discuss potential changes to the city’s resident sticker parking program. That discussion is estimated to begin at approximately 7:30 p.m.
