Winter sports enthusiasts won’t have to wait for the first snowfall to get their fix this year.
The JPT Film & Event Center will screen three ski-centric films over the next two weeks, bringing the slopes to Washington Square with a mix of extreme sports documentaries and classic cinema.
The series features annual releases from Teton Gravity Research and Warren Miller Entertainment, both currently on national film tours, along with a 1969 sports drama starring Robert Redford.
“The JPT cultivates a community for all films and media that appear across our screen,” said Alex Whitney, general manager of the theater. “Whether you’re a lifelong skier or more of an après-ski spectator, these films celebrate the full range of the mountain experience.”
The lineup begins Tuesday with “Pressure Drop,” Teton Gravity Research’s celebration of 30 years producing extreme sports media. The film follows top skiers and snowboarders through Norway, British Columbia and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a pre-film raffle and tasting from Sun Cruiser, with the screening starting at 7:30 p.m.
On Nov. 4, the theater continues its Remembering Robert Redford series — honoring the actor who died earlier this year — with a 7:30 p.m. showing of “Downhill Racer.” Redford stars as David Chappellet, an ambitious downhill skier pursuing Olympic gold. The Redford series runs through March 2026.
The final installment, “SNO-CIETY,” screens Nov. 7-8 at 7:30 p.m. both nights. The Warren Miller Entertainment production highlights skiing and snowboarding communities from the Scottish Highlands to British Columbia to downtown Denver. Pre-film activities, giveaways and sponsor booths will be available starting at 6:30 p.m.
