The historic Haversham property on Post Road has sold for $4.5 million, marking the highest commercial sale in Washington County and the second-largest statewide this year, according to Multiple Listing Service data.

The Bellone family purchased the 14-acre venue through Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty agent Gregory Arakelian. The sellers were represented by Mike Sweeney, Kate Greenman and Michelle Kirby of Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty.

Built in 1830, The Haversham has operated as a public establishment for nearly two centuries, evolving from a tavern to a wedding and event destination. The property includes three separate venues: the Haversham Tavern restaurant with live music and multiple bars, the Haversham House event space, and The Shamlot outdoor entertainment area with volleyball courts.

The complex totals 16,500 square feet across three kitchens, three bars, a 225-seat restaurant and a two-story event building. Recent renovations added landscaping features including waterfalls, stone archways and a pond.

“The Haversham Tavern and House is a historic and beloved landmark in our community, and we are honored to be able to make this purchase,” said John Bellone, speaking for his family. “We fully intend to continue the well-established tradition of good food, good drink, and hometown hospitality.”

The Bellone family brings 55 years of hospitality experience to the acquisition, operating the Breezeway Boutique Hotel, Maria’s Seaside Cafe and The Hotel Maria in Westerly.

Arakelian has brokered the highest commercial sales this year in both Washington and Newport counties. His previous deals include the record-setting sale of the Wayfinder Newport Hotel, the highest commercial transaction in Rhode Island history.

The transaction continues a strong year for Rhode Island’s commercial real estate market, with luxury properties attracting significant investment throughout the state.
