The Tiverton Public Library will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a community party on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The celebration will feature two-time Grammy-winning storyteller and musician Bill Harley, who will perform narrative songs and stories. Mrs. Katz and Her Hats will host a children’s storytime from 10:30 to 11 a.m.
Attendees can participate in hands-on activities including tie-dying and screen printing tote bags, trying the library’s 3D printer, engraving coasters with a laser printer and voting in a bake-off book cake contest. Food trucks will be on-site with items for purchase.
The modern library building opened in 2015 and serves as Rhode Island’s newest public library. In the past year, the facility has welcomed more than 600,000 visits, circulated more than 84,000 books and materials, and hosted hundreds of programs for all ages.
Regular programming at the library includes storytimes and LEGO programs for children, art clubs and book clubs for teens, and movie nights and lectures for adults. The library also offers technology help appointments, notary services, museum passes and meeting spaces.
Harley, described by Nuvo Newsweekly as “a master musician and storyteller,” has been recognized as one of the country’s finest performing storytellers. His work focuses on growing up, education and human connections. His newest recording for adults, “Same Moon,” was recorded during a live performance in his barn.
The library is located at 34 Roosevelt Avenue in Tiverton. More information is available at tivertonlibrary.org.
