Rep. Lauren H. Carson (D-Dist. 75, Newport) and Rep. Terri Cortvriend (D-Dist. 72, Portsmouth, Middletown) will host a virtual Aquidneck Island Climate Caucus conversation Sunday with Aquidneck Island Land Trust’s new Resilience Team.

The forum will take place on Zoom Sunday, March 30, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. It is open to the public but pre-registration is required for access and is available at this link.

The event will feature Aquidneck Island Land Trust Executive Director Terry Sullivan and the land trust’s Director of Climate Resilience, Paige Myatt, who will talk about the growing regional resilience coordination on Aquidneck Island.

Working closely with the municipalities of Newport, Middletown and Portsmouth as well as Naval Station Newport, the Land Trust has been awarded nearly $2 million to build capacity to tackle island-wide climate challenges, such as flooding and water quality.

The Aquidneck Island Climate Caucus is a community group formed by Representatives Cortvriend and Carson to give voice to the importance of mitigating and adapting for the earth’s changing climate.
