The Middletown Tax Office is sending out a second round of mailings to make sure that everyone eligible for the Tiered Residential Tax Program (TRTP) files an application by the March 15 deadline.

The mailings, which will go out this week in an official Town of Middletown envelope and will be postmarked, include a “Residency Verification” sheet and a separate application for the 2025 TRTP.

The town sent a similar mailing out to residents late last year to encourage them to sign up for the program. The second round is being sent out to maximize awareness of the program and the potential savings, according to Tax Assessor George Durgin.

Thousands of households have already filed their paperwork and do not need to do so again. Residents can also apply online at https://mdl.town/TRTP.

Middletown’s Town Council approved the TRTP in late 2021 to make living in Middletown more affordable for year-rounders. Eligible homeowners can save significant amounts of money on their property taxes. To be eligible, homeowners must be registered voters. There are approximately 4,500 eligible properties in Middletown.

“We got a really good response to our first mailer,” Durgin said. “We’re doing a second mailer to make sure that everyone who’s eligible (for the TRTP) applies. There are significant savings for anyone who’s eligible.”

The program requires residents to reapply every three years. Anyone with questions can visit https://mdl.town/TRTP, stop by Durgin’s office in Town Hall during regular business hours or call 401-847-7300.
