Newport’s School Committee members and state legislators are joining forces for a workshop to tackle key issues affecting the city, its schools, and the community.
The event takes place Saturday, Feb. 1, from 9 am to 11 am at the Newport Area Career and Technical Center on Old Fort Road.
State Representatives Lauren Carson and Marvin Abney, along with State Senators Dawn Euer and Lou DiPalma, are set to attend.
This workshop will cover a wide range of topics, including:
- Changes to the public education funding formula
- How unfunded mandates impact local budgets
- Housing challenges in the area
- Immigration and ICE concerns
- Potential statewide student cellphone policy
- The future of workforce development
- Career and technical education programs
- Updates on regionalization efforts
If time allows, residents can ask questions about the future of education and the community.
