What’sUpNewp acquires social media assets of Portsmouth Press to expand coverage in Portsmouth

What’sUpNewp, a trusted local, independent online news source serving Newport County and Rhode Island since 2012, over the weekend, acquired the social media assets of Portsmouth Press.

Portsmouth Press, founded by Sandy McGee, served the community of Portsmouth from 2016 – 2022.

The move aims to enhance What’sUpNewp’s presence in Portsmouth and further its mission of delivering timely, comprehensive, and community-focused journalism.

The Portsmouth Press social media channels will be rebranded to align with What’sUpNewp and will serve as a platform to promote expanded coverage in Portsmouth and connect more directly with the community.

McGee shared her thoughts on the transition and acquisition, saying, “Building Portsmouth Press has been an incredible experience, but as my priorities have shifted in recent years, it’s the right time to pass it on. I’m happy to transfer Portsmouth Press’s social media to What’sUpNewp, knowing they’ll continue to provide valuable local journalism. I’m looking forward to seeing expanded coverage in Portsmouth and how it benefits the community.”

What’sUpNewp is committed to continuing the legacy of high-quality, local news that Portsmouth Press established and looks forward to deepening its engagement with Portsmouth residents.
