Rhode Island State Police recently made two arrests on Aquidneck Island, both involving separate incidents.
On December 28, at 2:10 p.m., officers arrested Kevin Donohue, a 51-year-old Newport resident. Donohue was charged with failing to stop after an accident that caused damage to another vehicle. This arrest came after an investigation into a hit-and-run crash on the Newport Bridge.
State troopers, with help from the Newport Police Department, tracked down Donohue and his vehicle. After processing at the Wickford Barracks, he was arraigned by a Justice of the Peace and released. Donohue is set to appear in Second Division District Court at a later date.
Later that same day, at 11:50 p.m., police arrested Christopher Elrod, 45, from Gaston, South Carolina, in Middletown. Elrod faces charges related to firearms: carrying a pistol without a license or permit, and two counts of possessing large capacity feeding devices, which are prohibited.
Elrod’s arrest happened during a traffic stop on West Main Road, with Middletown Police Department officers assisting state troopers. Like Donohue, Elrod was processed at the Wickford Barracks, arraigned by a Justice of the Peace, and released. He also has a future court date scheduled in Second Division District Court.
