The Newport City Council will convene for a regular meeting on November 13, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. at Pell Elementary School, Cafeteria, 35 Dexter St., Newport, RI 02840.
The meeting will commence with a Citizens’ Forum, offering a platform for public address on city-related matters, excluding personnel or job performance discussions. The Citizens’ Forum period is limited to fifteen minutes, and citizens may address the Council on one subject for no more than three minutes. Matters not on the regular Council agenda and directly related to substantive city business are to be discussed.
The Board of License Commissioners will then convene to address several items, including a Class F Daily Liquor License application from Beacoup Café, LLC for a special event on December 6, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Additionally, the board will review a notice of change in membership for Carter, LLC, dba Speakeasy Bar & Grill. A hearing will be held to consider the application of The Red Parrot, Inc., dba The Red Parrot Restaurant, for a transfer of ownership to 348 Thames Opco, LLC. The board will also conduct renewals for 2024-2025 liquor licenses.
Following the Board of License Commissioners session, the City Council will convene to address a consent calendar, which includes approval of minutes from previous meetings, special event approvals, a holiday selling license application from Bastiat Rhode Island, Inc., dba Brandy Melville, and communications from various city officials and commissions. All licenses are granted subject to compliance with Ordinances #31-80 and #98-40.
The council will then consider several new license applications, including a pedicab business license renewal for John Litherland, dba Cap’n John Pedicabs, LLC, and a new victualing license for 348 Thames Opco, LLC, dba The Red Parrot Restaurant. Additionally, a hearing will be held for an entertainment license (Class A indoors) for 348 Thames Opco, LLC, dba The Red Parrot. The 2024-2025 annual victualing license renewals will be reviewed, including both liquor and non-liquor licenses.
Action items on the agenda include the sale of the Thayer Building to the Boys and Girls Club, additional funding for Rogers High School construction, and the award of contracts for masonry repairs, roof replacement, and other infrastructure projects. The council will also consider amendments to ordinances related to holidays, mooring permits and mooring tackle requirements, as well as resolutions approving the 2025 City Council meeting dates and honoring outgoing councilors Angela Lima and Mark Aramli for their service.
