The Tiverton Public Library has announced a comprehensive calendar of events for October, covering a range of interests for all ages.
One-on-one tech help is available to everyone regardless of skill level, and can be accessed by calling 401-625-6796 ext. 8 or through the online helpline. There is a weekly watercolor group for adults, and an introduction to Microsoft Excel class for beginners.
For those looking to explore their creativity, the library is also offering craft circles, where participants can meet with fellow crafters, get project ideas, and share tips and advice. In addition, the library will host a series of talks and workshops on topics such as meditation, poetry, and art.
On Tuesday, October 1, “Opening the Oyster: African American Foodways in Rhode Island, 1726-Present” will be presented by Robb Dimmick, scholar and Stages of Freedom co-founder.

Meet us by the picnic tables at Bulgarmarsh Park for a leisurely walk around the path and an informal chat about what you’ve been reading and watching lately.

Whether you are a seasoned pro or still learning, you are welcome to come and work on your own watercolor painting projects. This is not a class, but a space to paint and socialize with fellow enthusiasts. Must bring your own projects and supplies.

Opening the Oyster: African American Foodways in Rhode Island, 1726-Present
“Opening the Oyster” is an extraordinary look at Black culinary arts, foodways, and dishes invented by Rhode Island African American master chefs from the 18th and 19th centuries, including Duchess Quamino, the Pastry Queen of Rhode Island; Cuffy Cockroach, inventor of the turtle frolick; Albro Lyons, purveyor of ice cream; and George T. Downing, the nation’s premier caterer. Presented by Robb Dimmick, scholar and Stages of Freedom co-founder, this will be a delectable talk on the genius of African American cuisine.
