Today, the Rhode Island Democratic Party (RIDP) announced that its Democratic Delegation has voted to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as President of the United States.
The following statement is from RIDP Chairwoman Liz Beretta-Perik;
“The American Presidency is at its best when it becomes a vehicle for generational renewal. When we think of John Kennedy or Barack Obama it is not just about the accession of one person, it is about the empowerment of a new generation. In the last 72 hours, Vice President Kamala Harris has demonstrated that for our generation she has the power and strength to offer the renewal our country so desperately needs at this point in our history.
Kamala Harris already embodies the hopes of many Americans who have been bewildered by the efforts of some to turn back the clock in America. For women who have worried about the erosion of their rights, or our working families who have worried about their economic future, or our young people who have not seen leaders who are reflections of themselves—Harris is now their voice.
Tonight, the Rhode Island Democratic Delegation proudly voted to endorse Vice President Harris as our nominee for President of the United States. 25 out of 26 first-round voting members of the delegation and 9 out of 9 Automatic delegates voted ‘YES,’ along with an affirmative voice vote from the non-voting members of our delegation.
In less than 26 days, the Rhode Island Delegation will be in Chicago for the most historic convention of our lifetime, and we are ready to nominate the first woman President of the United States.”
