Are you thinking about running for office? Today, the City of Newport announced that its Canvassing Office will host a series of informational sessions for those interested in entering the race in November.

The information sessions will provide aspiring candidates with an overview of how to declare and run for office, from Newport’s nonpartisan City Council and School Committee to the General Assembly and beyond.

Topics discussed will include:

· How and when to declare your candidacy

· An overview of Nomination Papers – including Collection, Validation, Certification & Challenges

· District Committees and Endorsements

· Withdrawing Candidacy

· Partisan Primaries

· Publicly Available Information, such as Voter Lists, Street Files, Maps

· Ballot Placement Lottery

· And Voter Outreach

The sessions, scheduled for June 5th, 6th, 17th, and 20th, will be held at 5 p.m. in the Second Floor Conference Room at Newport City Hall.
